A charming and welcoming community

Scenic Beauty, and Authenticity

This graceful town of wide streets and historic buildings surrounded by lush grazing lands, rolling hills, forests and stunning mountain ranges, is a popular winter base for skiers heading to nearby Mount Buller and Mount Stirling. It’s little surprise that the beautiful and dramatic local scenery was used as the setting for the two Man from Snowy River films.

Lifestyle & Experience

Mansfield Zoo

Mansfield Zoo is one of North East Victoria’s hidden secrets, with a large collection of exotic and native animals on 30 acres of picturesque parkland featuring lovely views across the Delatite Valley to Mt Buller. Hand or spade feed many of the animals as you wander, including deer and kangaroos! Meet Hobbs, our mischievous capuchin monkey and Cybil the cheeky camel who loves to steal spades. Wander with Sammy, our friendly sambar deer, and Vicki the beautiful fallow deer, just some of the animals who will interact with you as you stroll around.

Farmers Market

The Mansfield Farmers Market is a fresh and artisan produce market held year-round in the median strip opposite the Post Office – right in the centre of Mansfield – on the fourth Saturday of the month. Over 30 colourful marquees set up on the grassy median strip right in the middle of town, showcasing the best fresh and artisan produce from the region, such as cheese, sour dough bread, olive oil, free-range meats and eggs and fresh produce.

Delatite Winery

In 1967 Robert Ritchie, third generation beef and prime lamb farmer at Delatite, went on a ski holiday at Mt Buller, with Jim Irvine, “The Master Merlot Maker”, from the Barossa Valley. One can only imagine what they discussed, but twelve months later, to everyone’s surprise, 500 vine sticks were left at the bottom of their drive. His wife Vivienne planted them in her vegetable garden and in the spring of 1968, with the help of their friends, they planted their first vineyard. For the next ten years they worked in collaboration with Peter and John Brown from Brown Brothers, growing varieties and developing wine styles suited to their climate.

Activity

A playground for outdoor enthusiasts, Mansfield is the perfect location for hiking, camping, fishing and skiing. Summer dreams are made exploring secret swimming holes hidden in the valleys that surround the town and enjoying pristine mountain lakes and rivers. The nearby Howqua and Delatite Rivers are favourites with locals with the famous Lake Eildon and Lake Nillahcootie only a short drive away and the perfect spot for boating or relaxing by the water.

The vibrant town centre, with its strong community spirit has a rich, character-filled history and offers a wide range of delicious cafes, restaurants, eclectic shops and accommodation.
